"Bespoke" is one of the most used words in Indian luxury, and one of the least precisely used. Search for bespoke furniture in Delhi and you will find carpenters, factories and design studios all using the same word for very different things. If you are about to commission a sofa, dining table or console, knowing the difference will save you money, time and disappointment.
Ready-made furniture is produced in standard sizes and finishes. You choose from what exists. It is fast and affordable, but it rarely fits a room perfectly.
Custom or made-to-order furniture starts from an existing design. You choose the size, fabric or finish, and the maker adjusts it. This works well when a standard design is close to what you want.
Bespoke furniture begins with your space and your brief. The piece is designed for you, drawn, agreed, and then built. Proportions, materials, joinery and details are decided specifically for your home. That is what you are paying for.
At Walnut Studio, most pieces take 6 to 10 weeks from approval to delivery. Whoever you choose, ask for a written schedule rather than a verbal promise.
A maker who is vague on these points is probably selling custom work under a bespoke label.
You can see finished examples in our furniture collection, from sofas and dining sets to centre tables, beds and storage.
Most clients begin with the pieces that anchor a room. A bespoke sofa lets you set the depth, seat height and firmness for how your family actually sits. A bespoke dining table can seat exactly the number you need, in the proportions your room allows. A console or sideboard adds storage and character to entrances and living areas.
Furniture looks its best when the lighting and finishing details are planned alongside it. Our ceiling lights and wall lights are designed to complement our furniture, and our home decor range helps finish the room. Planning them together keeps finishes, scale and mood consistent.
Cost depends on the size, materials, complexity and finish of the piece, so there is no honest single figure. Solid wood, hand finishing and stone tops cost more than veneers and laminates. Ask for an itemised quote so you can see where the money goes, and adjust materials if you need to hit a budget.
