Vaastu Shastra for Bedroom: A Study by WoodCraft International

In Indian culture, the importance of Vaastu Shastra has time and again been explained. The science behind it has been understood and followed for generations. Yes, Vaastu Shastra is the science of directions, which combines the five elements of nature – earth, air, water, fire, and ethos, with man and material. In Indian households, one can notice that interiors are designed in a way so as to align with the Vaastu Shastra.

The Walnut Studio, too, believes in the science behind Vaastu and designs interior spaces and furniture accordingly. One of the most important applications of the Vaastu Shastra is in bedrooms.

Direction of bedroom, Bed Direction, Mirrors, Dressers and Wardrobe are the important factors to be taken care off.

Vastu for bedrooms guarantees sound sleep which is crucial to lead an anxiety-free living. Vastu considers several variables while building and outlining rooms. There are several guidelines in the science and methodology of Vastu to create healthy vibes in your bedroom and create positivity around you.

Now, let’s take a detailed look at the guidelines provided for the recommended design of ideal bedrooms according to the Vaastu Shastra.

  1. Direction of bedroom

A bedroom should not be in the South East direction according to Vaastu Shastra. It is preferred that the bedroom should be in the South West, South, West or North West. If there are limited options then the bed should be away from the southeast corner as this means one will be sleeping on too much fire.

2. Bed Direction

According to science, one must sleep in a suitable direction to create better levels of         comfort in the state of rest. For instance, except North, sleeping with your head in any of the other seven directions is recommended. Sleepless nights and major illnesses could be the results of sleeping with one’s head in the North direction. On the contrary, South and East are considered as the best directions for sleeping. Head towards South implies that one will have a sound sleep and in addition, increases the wealth and prosperity in one’s life. As for the East, it is considered to be a more spiritually rich direction. With one’s head resting in this direction, Vaastu Shastra suggests that it leads to better concentration levels and enhanced memory.

3. Mirrors, Dressers and Wardrobe

According to Vaastu, heavy objects like beds, cupboards, etc, in the bedroom should be placed in the South, South West, or West direction of the room. The first thing one wakes up to is the wall across the bed. It can be decorated with pleasing wall hangings or pictures that bring pleasure. Complementing it with fairy lights behind the bedpost creates a meditative environment.

Mirrors should not face north or east. This may reflect away positive energy entering from the north or east direction.

For a good health and peaceful sleep, mirrors should be avoided in bedrooms. According to Vastu, if there is a mirror in the bedroom then it should not face the bed.

It is suggested that sleeping with the head towards the South or East direction of the bedroom is best as the former brings a night of good deep sleep and ensures long life and the latter brings enlightenment. There should be no windows behind the bed.

In addition, the shapes of elements in the interior also determine the nature of vibes in a given space. Vaastu Shastra recommends square and rectangular shaped elements in the bedrooms, especially. To ensure a sound sleep, the science recommends use of regular sized and regular shaped beds and other elements in the bedroom.

From the above mentioned suggestions, it is evident how directions are important while setting up interiors in a given space. Following these tips could sometimes be a tedious activity. However, Vaastu Shastra does help in gaining a rather positive, refreshed and peaceful aura in your bedroom.
